Mangaluru, Mar 10: Amidst preparation for the upcoming assembly polls, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minster B Ramanath Rai on Saturday laid foundation for four developmental projects on the premises of Government Wenlock Hospital at a cost of Rs 23.5 crore.
The four much awaited projects include Composite Ayush Medical Hospital, a brain child of former Health Minister and incumbent Food minister UT Khader.
The 50-bed Ayush Hospital will come up near the District Drug House. There will be 10 beds each for Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. The government has sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the hospital. “This will be the first such hospital in the State,” said Mr Khader, who had sanctioned the project during his term as Health Minister.
The other three new projects are: medical super-speciality block, child health institute and the district public health laboratory.
The new 126-bed medical super -speciality block, sanctioned by the government last year, will be constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore. This block will come up next to the 176-bed three-storey block, which is being constructed on the hospital premises at a cost of Rs 15 crore.
With a total of 300 beds, Mr. Rai said the medical super-specality block will cater to all super-speciality treatment needs of patients from Dakshina Kannada and other neighbouring districts, including Kasaragod in Kerala.
The 67-bed child health institute will come up next to the Regional Advanced Paediatric Care Centre, the popular child care centre of Wenlock Hospital constructed on the funds provided by Infosys. The State government sanctioned Rs 3 crore for construction of the institute in the budget in 2017.
The District Public Health Laboratory will come up on the first floor of the Trauma Block of Wenlock Hospital. An amount of Rs 50 lakh was earmarked for this project announced in the 2015-16 budget. This lab will be used for detection of communicable diseases namely H1N1, dengue, malaria and chikungunya.
