Kumble, Sep 1: Four persons, including a woman, have been arrested on charges of blackmail and extortion of money from a wealthy hotelier, by luring him with the offer of a woman in marriage and threatening to reveal recorded conversations between the two.
A case was registered at Kumble police station, after the hotelier filed a complaint against the four accused.
According to the complaint filed by Mumbai-based hotelier hailing from Arikkadi, Mohammed (50), personal differences had arisen between him and his wife over time. Trying to gain advantage using this fact, the male accused approached him and began to persuade him to marry the accused Tahira.
Thereafter, having secretly recorded telephonic conversations between Mohammed and Tahira, the accused began to blackmail him by threatening to go public with the recorded conversations.
In his complaint, Mohammed has stated that he was being blackmailed from June 24 and had been extorted money to the tune of Rs 2.85 lakhs till date.
