Mangaluru, Dec 8: The recurrence of untoward incidents in Mangaluru and surrounding areas on Sunday contributed to heighten the communal tensions in the coastal district of Dakshina Kananda.
A middle aged Muslim merchant from Bengaluru identified as Sayed Wasim was brutally stabbed by and robbed by two miscreants suspected to be members of Sangh Parivar at Bandar area on Sunday night.

Mr Wasim has been admitted to a private hospital in the city. His condition is said to be critical.
According to eyewitnesses, two miscreants who came on a motorbike attacked Mr Wasim, snatched his mobile phone and brutally stabbed him before fleeing from the scene. Mr Wasim who had come to the city for business purpose collapsed in a pool of blood. He was immediately taken to a hospital by local residents. A case has been registered at Mangaluru North Police Station.
Attack or accident?
In a separate incident, a 23-year-old youth was hospitalized with severe injuries after his over-speed motorbike skidded off the road near Kenjar on the outskirts of the city on Sunday evening. The injured is Ranjit alias Ranju, a Sangh Parivar activist.
However, Ranjit claimed that he was attacked with swords by a group of four men belonging to another community, who followed him on two motorbikes.
Jurisdictional Bajpe police station are investigating the matter after registering a case.
