Mysuru, Apr 15: Confirming the honour killing' of a 22-year-old Hindu girl in Chandrawadi village in Nanjangud taluk near here, the Mysuru district police said that the family of the victim decided to change their community's funeral rituals from burial to cremation, ostensibly to destroy evidence.

The accused entered into a criminal conspiracy and gave her mango juice laced with pesticide on Monday evening.
She repeatedly threw up and writhed in pain, but she was not taken to hospital. She was left to die, said Superintendent of Police of Mysuru district Abhinav Khare at a press conference in Mysuru on Thursday.
The family began the campaign to end her romance with Jayaramu, an electrician in the same village, when they heard she was to elope. They got her engaged to one Shivaraju, who belongs to the same caste as the family, and the marriage was fixed for April 29.
Three days prior to the killing, quarrels were heard in the household, with the girl refusing to marry Shivaraju, Mr. Khare said.
Though the girl's brother, Guruprasad (26), bought the pesticide that was mixed in the juice, Mr. Khare said the girl's mother Manjula (48), and father Gurumallappa (64), were also part of the conspiracy. After Madhu succumbed on Monday night, the family told the neighbours that she had died from a stomach ailment.
The next morning, she was cremated near the Lingayat burial ground in the village, though their community's tradition is to bury the dead.
Murder threats
Mr. Khare said Madhu Kumari had told Jayaramu that her family was threatening to kill her. She had also warned him that they would kill her and put the blame on him.
The police said Madhu — who had dropped out of school after SSLC — and Jayaramu had been close friends for about four to five years. When the family learnt about the affair, they stopped her from leaving the house.
Mr. Khare said Jayaramu does not belong to the Dalit community, as was reported earlier. The girl's parents, who were taken in for questioning on Wednesday, were arrested on Thursday.

Seriously Unbelievable, parents must think before what they are doing in the name of religion,
murderers should be behind the bar for lifetime. other parents should know the punishment of killing their child.
killing someone for honour is not right, she has the freedom to choose the one whom she wanted to live with. still parents have some rights on their children i believe they can explain them the problem facing the society,.
