Tejaswini was alone at home when the incident took place. Her brother was away in school. Her father, a daily wage labourer, and mother Kumari, a homemaker, had gone to a dairy to sell milk.
It was Tejaswini, who called up her cousin requesting him to check her results online at around 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Within a few minutes she ended her life.
Police sources said that the girl's cousin, who lives near Bidadi, checked the results and found that Tejaswini had scored a first class. Just to tease her, he said she had failed. Tejaswini immediately disconnected the call. He called back repeatedly, but in vain
Meanwhile, on their way back home, Ramakrishnaiah and Kumari stopped to check their daughter's results at the gram panchayat office and were elated to find she had scored a first class. They rushed home to give her the news but found her missing. Searching in the backyard, Ramakrishnaiah was shocked to see his daughter's body floating in the well.
A postmortem revealed Tejaswini had died of a heart attack, much before she drowned.
Eyes donated
Ramakrishnaiah and Kumari donated their daughter's eyes. "We're not very educated. But we want to donate Tejaswini's eyes, this way, she'll help two blind persons at least," family sources said.
