Karwar, Sep 27: Hundreds of families of Kannadigas have been rendered homeless following a demolition drive by the district administration at the Kate Baina beach in neighbouring Goa.

People from North Karnataka, who came to the neighbouring state in search of a livelihood, have built houses on the seashore. But the government there has been demolishing the houses in phases on the grounds that the structures are unsafe. While 75 houses were demolished last year, 50 were razed in June this year. Water and electricity connections were cut off for the remaining houses in June.
Bheemashankar Patil, president of the State unit of the Karnataka Nava Nirmana Sene, told said that a Delhi Chalo had been organised on October 16, under the leadership of writer Patil Puttappa, in protest against the atrocities committed by the Goa government.
They would submit memorandums to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda, demanding that the Centre should ensure the protection of Kannadigas living in Goa.
