Kasargod, May 31: The police on Friday arrested a youth, accused of hatching a conspiracy to loot around 1.750 kg gold ornaments from an employee of a Thrissur-based ornament manufacturing firm here in May 2007.
Abdul Sameer, a resident of Posotte, near Manjeswaram, was arrested by a police team led by Kasaragod CI T P Jacob from his residence.
Sameer, who had fled to the Gulf after the incident, was arrested following a tip-off. Sameer used to work in a jewellery outlet in Uppala with whom the Thrissur-based firm had a business relationship.
On a tip-off from Sameer, a seven-member gang in a car had knocked down Vinto Antony, who used to collect gold ornaments from the firm, near the new bus station on May 12, 2007.
The occupants of the car snatched the bag containing around 1.750 kg gold. The police had managed to arrest five of the accused, Mr Jacob said. While one of the accused died after the incident, another was still at large, he said.
