Bantwal, Nov 7: On the pretext of a pointless allegation that his father is involved in cattle transportation, a college student belonging to Muslim community was brutally assaulted by a group of four students belonging a Hindutva outfit, at Siddakatte Government PU College in Bantwal taluk on Thursday evening.
The victim had been identified as Mohammed Sulaiman, a first-year PUC student in the college.
It has been alleged that other students from the same college Ganesh, Nitesh, Chandrahas and Kiran brutally assaulted Sulaiman after insulting him with derogatory words.
A complaint was lodged and a case was registered at Bantwal Rural police station on Friday evening.
Counter complaint
With regard to the same incident, one of the accused Nitesh has lodged a counter complaint accusing Mohammed Fayaz, Mohammed Sulaiman and Faizal of assaulting him and using derogatory words, in the college ground on Thursday morning.
In view of the clash on Thursday, the principal had summoned both the groups of students in the college and appealed them to settle the dispute mutually.
However, the victim and the accused got themselves admitted to the hospital for treatment. Hence, a complaint and counter complaint were lodged on Friday, and the police are investigating the cases.
CFI condemns assault
The Bantwal taluk unit of Campus Front of India (CFI) has strongly condemned the brutal assault on PUC student Mohammed Sulaiman.
In a press release, CFI Bantwal taluk president Ashwan Sadith said that a student belonging to the minority had been assaulted for a pointless reason that his father was involved in cattle transportation. The police should get to work and immediately arrest the accused who assaulted the student. In addition, care should be taken so that such incidents do not occur in the future, said the press release.
