Bantwal, Apr 10: Once again a tense atmosphere has prevailed in Kalladka, the most sensitive town in Dakshina Kannada district, after a clash apparently triggered by a few miscreants amidst poll fever.
At least three persons were injured and two vehicles were damaged during the clash.
According to the local sources, the clash was erupted at around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday when youth belonging to minority community was thrashed by a group of miscreants, in an apparent bid to disturb the peace.
Within few minutes after the incident violent groups belonging to two communities began to fight on the street and threw bottles and stones at each other. A few vehicles plying through Kalladka were also attacked with bottles and stones, sources said.
Shops were closed in Kalladka upper town immediately after the incident.
Sleuths of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), who were already in the town to maintain peace, resorted to baton charge to bring the situation under control. Bantwal Circle Inspector Rajashekhar Misthri also visited the spot.
The latest incident of clash, which occurred amidst the ongoing campaign by political parties for Lok Sabha polls, has intensified tensions among peace loving citizens.
