Mangalore, Aug 14: Under the banner of Mangalore International Airport Users' Forum, several organisations formed by NRIs residing in the Middle East will jointly hold a dharna on August 18 demanding the commencement of budget airlines from Mangalore to Gulf countries and cancellation of user's fee at Mangalore International Airport.
In a press release, the Forum stated that the flight rates charged by low-cost airlines to Kozhikode, Cochin and Thiruvanathapuram were very low while the flight rates charged by full-fledged airlines to Mangalore Airport were higher, demanding budget airline flights to Mangalore.
The release also stated that the service of Air India Express flight to UAE which started eight years ago was disappointing with regard to inefficient handling of baggage and inconvenient flight timings.
The forum has demanded proper handling of luggage by flight services and shifting the timings of the flight.
The forum has also demanded cancellation or revision of user fee collected upon departure and arrival at the international airport at Mangalore which is being imposed on passengers to recover the construction cost of the airport.
The release also stated that the forum would urge the reconstitution of an NRI welfare forum that existed previously.
