Mangaluru, Nov 24: The poor drainage system in this coastal city was exposed once again by a sudden rain on Friday night. Though the rain lashed for not more than half an hour, it inundated the city roads and threw life out of gear for a brief period.
The heavy downpour started at around 8:30 p.m. and stopped by 9:00 p.m. However, flooded city roads and brought traffic to a halt in areas like Kankanady, Jyothi, Pandeshwar and Jeppinamogaru.
Commuters, who were caught unaware of the sudden change in weather condition, braved the thunder and lightning, even as they rushed to building establishments seeking shelter.
Motorcyclists bore the brunt as bigger vehicles moved to splash water that was gathered on the road concrete road connecting the city to Kottara-Chowki.
