Mangaluru, Jan 15: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday rejected the bail application of Shabbeer Bhatkal, said to be an aide of Riyaz Bhatkal, an alleged co-founder of Indian Mujahideen.

Shabbeer has been booked under Sections 120(B), 121, 122, 123, 153A, 212, 420, 468, 471 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Sections 9(B) of Explosive Act and Section 5 and 6 of Indian Explosive Substance Act and Sections 3 and 4 of the Arms Act.
Shabeer had contended that many who were arrested along with him were granted bail, however, his bail application has not been accepted.
Justice A V Chandrashekhar rejected his bail application stating the there were pending cases against him and the police required him in their custody for further investigation.
A total of seven persons including a father and son were arrested in a suspected terror case. Family members of the accused believe that all the seven arrested are innocents and victims of some conspiracy.
The arrest process had started on October 3, 2008 in Mangaluru taluk. 20-year-old Javed Ali, and his 60-year-old father Mohammed Ali were dragged out of their house at Ullal in a pre-dawn operation carried out jointly by Mumbai Police with the help of Karnataka Anti-Naxal Force and the Dakshina Kannada district Police, on October 3, 2008.
Later the police arrested five others: Fakir Ahmed, Moulana Shabbeer Bhatkal and Mohammed Rafeeq, Ahmed Bava alias Abubaker and Naushad. Among the seven arrested four were subsequently released on bail.
Shabbeer Bhatkal is currently lodged in Mangaluru jail, while Ahmed Bava and Naushad are in the custody of Mumbai police. Cases were pending against them in Mangaluru, Mumbai and Ahmadabad courts.
