Bengaluru, Mar 23: Irked by Congress president Rahul Gandhi remark that the JD(S) is BJP's 'B' team, former chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday hit back, saying that the Congress in Karnataka is in reality 'B' team of the JD(S).

Targeting the JD(S) in the H D Deve Gowda's fiefdom, Hassan, Rahul had on Wednesday accused that the regional party was in cahoots with the BJP. He had termed the JD(S) as the BJP's 'B' team.

In a statement, a derisive Kumaraswamy said that he sympathised with Rahul's "political naivety".

"Rahul Gandhi has forgotten that the Congress is JD(S)'s B team. It is a fact. I'm not sure if it was a conscious statement by him or if somebody had written it down (his speech) for him. I can't help but sympathise with his political naivety. Rahul, who has become the Congress president either by luck or by competence, wouldn't be making such childish remarks, if he had any idea about today's Karnataka Congress," the JD(S) state chief said.

He said that the Congress had branded the JD(S) as a regional party as it had raised its voice against the national party. He also questioned if Rahul was aware of the political roots of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, some of his Cabinet colleagues and the Congress MLAs.

"Do you know the (political) roots/origin of today's Congress chief minister? He was groomed by the JD(S), and so were half the ministers in his Cabinet. They were all coached by Deve Gowda. Do you even know how many of your party legislators are originally from the JD(S)? If you don't know any of this, then your knowledge about your own party is limited. First understand the realities of politics, and then talk about politics," he added.

Kumaraswamy also said that the people whom Rahul was "defending" today, were the ones who had split the JD(S) to form the Congress's 'B' team.

He said that the original Congress was no more in existence, especially after it had lost leaders such as S M Krishna and V Srinivas Prasad.

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A group of Congress workers gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday to welcome AICC general secretary K C Venugopal, but the reception quickly turned into a display of support for Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar.

Venugopal arrived in the city to participate in the centenary commemoration of the historic dialogue between Mahatma Gandhi and Narayana Guru. The event, organised by the Sivagiri Mutt, Varkala, in association with the Mangalore University Sri Narayana Guru Study Chair, is being held on the university’s Konaje campus.

KPCC general secretary Mithun Rai and several party workers had assembled at the airport to receive Venugopal. However, the moment he stepped out, workers began raising slogans backing Shivakumar.

The university programme will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

This show of support comes just a day after Siddaramaiah remarked that Shivakumar would lead the government “when the high command decides.” The chief minister made the comment after a breakfast meeting at Shivakumar’s residence—another public display of camaraderie between the two leaders amid ongoing attempts by the party high command to downplay their leadership rivalry.

Mangaluru: In a significant step to curb online hate and intimidation, Mangaluru City Police have registered a suo motu case against multiple Instagram accounts accused of circulating alleged provocative and threatening content.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.

Mangaluru police have arrested a 27-year-old NRI on his return from Saudi Arabia in connection with an Instagram post allegedly containing derogatory and provocative remarks about the Hindu religion, officials said on Monday.

The accused, Abdul Khader Nehad, a resident of Ulaibettu in Mangaluru, was working in Saudi Arabia when the post was uploaded, police said.

A suo motu case was registered at the Bajpe police station on October 11 after an allegedly offensive post circulated from the Instagram account ‘team_sdpi_2025’. Police said the content was flagged for being provocative and derogatory in nature.

During the investigation, technical analysis traced the Instagram post to Nehad, who was residing abroad at the time, a senior police officer said. Based on these findings, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued against him.

On December 14, Nehad arrived from Saudi Arabia at Calicut International Airport in Kerala, where he was taken into custody on arrival. Police said further investigation is underway.
