Mangaluru, Dec 28: State health minister U T Khader is not just an able politician the state has seen, but also an able sportsman even from his college days.
This became apparent when the minister donned the role of a batsman and faced deliveries during a cricket match held at Bellare in Sullia taluk recently.
Mr Khader was one of the chief guests at a floodlight sports meet held at Bellare after midnight on Saturday. In a grand gesture, he was welcomed and felicitated during the stage programme. Soon after the programme, the minister directly entered the field and sportively took up the cricket bat to begin his innings.
Enthralling the audience with his batting, the minister hit a whopping 9 sixes in three overs, eliciting loud cheers and applause from the viewers. Out of the 19 balls he faced, he hit 9 sixes and also hit 3 boundaries during his short innings, thus demonstrating his batting skills. Rashid Vittal, who was also one of the chief guests on the occasion, bowled a few deliveries to batsman Khader.
His short but action-packed innings came to an end as he was bowled out in the fourth over.
Demonstrating his sportiness and batting skills, Mr Khader raised the spirits of players and increased levels of enthusiasm among the organisers as well as the spectators.
Even after a day-long busy schedule attending programmes on Saturday, Mr Khader was in high spirits during the cricket match in Bellare.
