Mangalore, Jan 17: The Department of Hospital Administration of Father Muller Medical College (FMMC) organised 'Horizon 2014' a two-day national conference on recent trends in healthcare, which was inaugurated at Decennial Memorial Hall in the college premises here on Friday.
Delivering the keynote address on the occasion, chief medical co-ordinator of Unity Health Complex, Mangalore Dr Rohan Monis said that as patients had become demanding in recent times, healthcare professionals must have higher moral quotient and focus on involving them in the healthcare plan.
He spoke on recent trends such as affordable healthcare organisations, increased level of patient management, retail health clinics, healthcare IT, wellness industry and maintaining visibility for customers.
He shed light on some of the gaps in healthcare industry such as affordability, accessibility, increasing costs, cultural norms, rise of non-communicable diseases, delays in treatment, malpractice, unwanted procedures and hospital-acquired infections.
As healthcare professionals, one must strive to become more knowledgeable about the field and strive towards fulfilling noble visions of caring for the society, he said.
In his inaugural address, Chief of Medical Services Dr B Sanjeev Rai stressed on the need to adapt to the changing trends in healthcare services. Doctors and healthcare professionals need to constantly update their knowledge in recent trends. They should be careful in managing the patients since it is dangerous to practice today, as patients are more aware in current times. There should be changes in approach and modality of treatment, along with changes in administration and infrastructure, keeping in with the demands of recent trends, he said.
