Mangaluru, Jun 4: Heavy rains coupled with thunder and lightning lashed the coastal city of Mangaluru and other part of Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday afternoon.
The pre-monsoon showers threw normal life out of gear in the city with reports of water-logging on roads and low-lying areas in different parts.
A monsoon-like atmosphere prevailed in the coastal city and surroundings thanks to heavy rainfall.
Meanwhile, the MET department officials today said that the southwest monsoon is expected to hit Kerala coast within a day or two.
Monsoon hitting Kerala marks the official onset of the rainy season in the country. The normal onset date of monsoon in India is June 1. The MET department has initially said that Monsoon would hit the southern state on May 30, but later revised it to June 5, blaming its "sluggish" pace.
"The trough of low over southeast Arabian sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area is more marked today. Under its influence, rainfall activity over Kerala has increased.
