
Mangalore, Feb 24: Demanding that the police should not arrest 'innocents' in a case of moral policing, a group of people led by Hindu Jagarana Vedike picketed the police station in Surathkal on Sunday.
Police had arrested Satheesh (23) of Kulai and Nagesh (34) of Neermarga on the charges of kidnapping and assaulting a Muslim youth on Friday.
Nisar a resident of Kulai, was found in an unconscious state on a beach near National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NITK).
Sources said that he was assaulted for being with a minor girl belonging to different community. However, Nissar's relative Jamal Kulai said Nissar was abducted by his assaulters when he was on this way to a computer centre in Surathkal.
Ramesh S, Mangalore north BJP president said that police arrested innocent Hindu youths at Surathkal. “They entered Hindu houses in midnight and arrested them without any evidence,” he said.
Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra visited the spot.
Corporator Gunashekar Shetty, Sumitra, Ganesh Hosabettu, Vasudeva Gowda, Jayaram Achar, Rajesh Kottary, Varun Chowta, Vasanth Hosabettu and others were present.
