Mangalore, Mar 16: BJP MLC Monappa Bhandary alleged that the police department had compiled a list of 300 rowdy-sheeters in the district, which included several activists from Hindu organisations and BJP party workers like Sharan Pumpwell, Pradeep Pumpwell and Subhash Padil, proposing them for preventive detention.
Speaking at a press conference at Sanghaniketan here on Saturday, he accused the Congress-led state government of trying to target BJP party workers and Hindu activists by including their names in the rowdy-sheet without any basis, ahead of elections.
Most of those included in the list belong to Hindu organisations like Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagrana Vedike and Gorakshak Dal, who protested against illegal cow slaughter, forceful conversion and other anti-social activities. This is orchestrated by anti-social forces in the Congress government, and instead of taking action against them, the police have proposed detention for Hindu activists who are social workers, he claimed, stating that it was unlawful.
The police department has dropped the old list of rowdy-sheeters which included the names of several Congress workers, and compiled a new list consisting of BJP workers. The Congress party is indulging in third-grade politics ahead of elections, to create fear in the minds of BJP workers, he said, adding that Congress members will not be successful in their attempts.
“If the Congress continues with such tactics, they will see and experience the results on a single day,” he warned.
He also said that it was unfortunate that local Congress leaders were involved in making personal remarks on prominent BJP members.
Nalin Kumar Kateel nomination on March 20
Mr Bhandary said that Nalin Kumar Kateel, the MP candidate from BJP, would file his nomination papers on March 20. The party election office will be inaugurated on the same day at Bunts Hostel, he said.
