According to sources, Rajesh and Srinath, studying in Katipalla College in Surathkal, had travelled from Suruathkal to Manipal with three of their classmates- two Muslim girls and a Hindu girl on a bus.
They reportedly visited tourist spot Rajathadri together. While returning they were followed by three youths belonging to Muslim Community on the same bus.
When the bus was about to reach Kaup, they thrashed to two boys and threatened the girls. After getting down at Kaup, the three youths were joined by another youth and together they thrashed the boys.
On hearing about this, Bajrang Dal workers gathered in front of Kaup police station and demanded arrest of those behind the incident.
Udupi Superintendent of Police M B Boralingaiah said that a case of assault had been registered at Kaup Police station, but no arrests had been made.
This is the first such incident in Udupi district in this year. Most of the recent incident, which hogged the headlines, were in Dakshina Kannada district.
