Mangalore, May 6: Heap of sand, scattered boxes of Coca-Cola soft drink cans and rubbles of a truck and tipper lorry caused traffic chaos at Nanthoor Circle in the city following a massive collision between two high speed heavy vehicles.
Drivers of the sand-laden tipper lorry which was coming from the direction of Kulshekar and Coca-Cola laden truck that was plying towards Kerala on the highway were critically injured when their vehicles were collided in L-angle at the circle.
The impact of the collision was such that both the vehicles were topped in filmy style unloading their loads on the road. The front portion of the truck was reduced into a bundle of metals.
Fortunately, the traffic police booth located at the centre of the circle was unmanned. The booth was uprooted when the truck turned turtle.
Citizens, vehicle drivers and police had to suffer as within a couple of minutes massive queues of vehicles were formed from three directions.
Eyewitnesses held the reckless driving responsible for the accident that would have been a great tragedy if there were more vehicles. They said that the truck which rammed into the tipper was moving in high speed.
Jurisdictional Kadri police, who rushed to the spot are investigating the matter.
