Mangalore, Aug 21: In memory of the slain rationalist Narendra Dabholkar, several anti-superstition activists held a protest meeting in front of the deputy commissioner's office here on Wednesday, condemning the ineffectiveness of the CBI in investigation his murder.
A year after Pune-based rationalist and anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar was shot dead by unknown assailants on August 20, the activists gathered here on Wednesday as a mark of paying tribute to the man.
Speaking at the protest meeting, president of Federation of Indian Rationalist Associations (FIRA) said that even after a year after he was killed, the assassins of Dabholkar had gone untraced. Although the case was handed over to the CBI for investigation, they have failed to make any headway in the murder case, he said, condemning the ineffectiveness of the CBI.
He said that the protestors had gathered to show their commitment to the ideals and path shown by Narendra Dabholkar. The efforts of Dabholkar who pushed the progressive social and anti-superstition movement forward bore fruit when the Maharashtra government cleared the anti-superstition and black magic bill last year for which he had campaigned his entire life, he said.
The activists demanded that akin to Maharashtra government, the Karnataka government should pass the anti-superstition bill in the state.
DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla, Vasudev Uchil, corporator Dayananda Shetty, SFI district president Nithin Kuthar, Jeevan Raj and others participated in the protest meeting.
