Mangalore, Sep 15: Minister for health and family welfare UT Khader said that the state government had approved a list of programmes and schemes under the National Urban Health Mission to improve the health of the urban poor and a district-level programme would be organised towards the end of October to launch all NUHM-related schemes in the city.
Briefing mediapersons at a press conference here on Monday, he said that seven new urban primary health centres (UPHCs) would come up in urban areas of the city while two existing ones would be upgraded. The new urban PHCs will be set up in Kunjathbail, Kulai, Shaktinagar, Bunder, Padil, Bejai and Yekkur. An Arogya Raksha Samithi (ARS), headed by the respective MLA or Corporator, will be constituted for each UPHC for improved functioning and better services to patients at the health centres, he said.
He informed that Rs 45 lakhs had been sanctioned to set up seven new PHCs under the NUHM and three PHCs would be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 10 lakhs.
Five public health kiosks will be set up in remote areas of the city and four in Ullal, which will be manned by para-medical staff. Basic necessities required for services such as ANC checkup, PNC checkup, immunization, NCD screening, hypertension, diabetes, blood smear for malaria, etc will be available at the health kiosks, he said.
He said that the kiosks would be set up at Jyothinagar, Kudroli, Kudkorigudda, Pachanady and Meenakaliya in Mangalore city and Sarasathva Colony, Uchila gudde, Alekala Thota and Kumpala in Ullal CMC limits.
All the above schemes will be launched in October in the district, said Mr Khader.
