Mangaluru, May 5: After it was launched statewide in the capital city of Bengaluru last month, two bike ambulances for Mangaluru and Ullal were inaugurated by health minister U T Khader in the city on Tuesday.
Launched as part of the '108' statewide emergency response system, the bike ambulances will be ridden by a paramedical staff trained in emergency response during critical times such as road accidents. The bike ambulance, which is a modified Avenger motorbike fitted with necessary emergency kit box and sirens, will contain around 50 emergency lifesaving kits including first aid, oxygen masks and vital medicines.
After getting good response for their efficient services in Bengaluru, two such bike ambulances were inaugurated for Mangaluru and Ullal limits on Tuesday at the cost of Rs 2.5 lakh each.
Addressing mediapersons at a media conference here on Tuesday, Mr Khader said that out of the total 32 bike ambulances launched in the state, 20 such bikes had been allotted for Bengaluru city limits, while all city corporations would be allotted one bike each within their limits.
One bike ambulance each will provide emergency response to critical patients in Mangaluru and Ullal limits, he informed.
Prashanth from Chikmagalur, a paramedical staff trained in emergency services under the 108 scheme, will man the bike ambulance in Mangaluru, while another staff Tabrez Sheikh from Karwar will man the bike ambulance in Ullal.
