Mangaluru, Oct 10: Normal life was affected on the second consecutive day on Saturday in Moodbidri town of Dakshina Kannada district where Sangh Parivar activists unleashed violence on Friday following the murder of a Bajrang Dal activist by unidentified miscreants.
29-year-old Prashant Poojary was hacked to death in front of his flower shop in the relatively peaceful town by six men.
Even though the circumstances that led his coldblooded murder are yet to be ascertained Bajrang Dal leaders have held cattle traders belonging to minority community responsible for the murder. Few others suspect that the murder might be the result of clash between Hindu groups.
Within hours after the attack, the activists of VHP, Bajrang Dal and other saffron outfits had managed to impose a bandh in Moodbidri blocking buses and forcing people to shut down their shops.
Despite appeal from Dakshina Kannada district administration and police department to maintain peace and not to disrupt law and order in the town, trouble mongers started to spread rumours on WhatsApp and imposed bandh on Saturday too.
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim paid a visit to the murder spots and other places where Sangh Parivar agitators caused damages to the properties belonging to minority community.
Mr Ibrahim has urged the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner S Murguan to immediately nab all the culprits and take stringent action against them.
Additional armed police personnel have been deployed in areas vulnerable to clashes in and around the town.
