Lucknow, Aug 13: Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, the head of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust or the Ram Temple trust in Ayodhya, who has tested positive for coronavirus.

The 82-year-old had shared stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other VIPs during the groundbreaking ceremony for a Ram Temple at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh on August 5.

The others on the stage were Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel and Mohan Bhagwat, chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the BJP's ideological mentor.

Nritya Gopal Das is currently in Mathura. "We were informed that Maharaj-ji has some fever, so we sent a team of doctors and they investigated and gave medicines . The fever is normal. He has mild breathlessness and we checked his oxygen level. It is saturated. There is nothing serious. We checked for coronavirus, did antigen test and there is positivity," Sarvagya Ram Mishra, District Magistrate of Mathura, told reporters.

"The Chief Minister has directed that Maharaj-ji be shifted to the Medanta Hospital and we are getting that done as soon as possible. Maharaj-ji is stable," he said.

Nritya Gopal Das has also been heading the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas since 2003. It is an Ayodhya-based trust run by members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) for the construction of the Ram Temple.

PM Modi laid the first brick for the Ram Temple at Ayodhya at the mega ceremony last Wednesday. He returned to the holy city after 29 years to participate in the "Bhoomi Pujan" or the groundbreaking ceremony for the temple, which meets a core promise of the ruling BJP.

Days before the ceremony, a priest, Pradeep Das, and 14 policemen on duty in the Ram Janambhoomi complex had also tested positive for coronavirus.

Bengaluru, Sept 22: The Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Department has directed all schools across the southern state not to reopen till September 30 due to the rising number of the coronavirus cases across Karnataka, especially in Bengaluru.

"Though the Centre on August 31 advised the state governments to reopen schools from September 21 under Unlock 4.0 for allowing students of class 9-10 to consult their teachers on lessons, we have directed them to defer it till September 30 in view of the spurt in Covid cases," state secondary education director Krishnaji Karichannavara told IANS in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

In a circular on September 19 to all schools, including state-run and private, the department's principal secretary said he would seek the state health and family welfare department's assessment of the Covid situation across the state for reopening schools and allowing class 9-10 students to meet their teachers from October first week.

Though state education minister S. Suresh Kumar also told reporters at Mysuru on September 18 that schools and pre-university colleges would reopen from September 21 not to resume classes but to consult teachers to clear their doubts in studies, the department postponed it to September 30, as parents and guardians were wary of sending their wards to schools amid the pandemic fears.

On the basis of a police report issued on Sunday, the district administration sent the accused to jail under the National Security Act (NSA), Superintendent of Police (West Zone) Mahesh Chandra Jain said.

Under the NSA, a person can be detained without a charge for up to 12 months if authorities are satisfied that he or she is a threat to national security or law and order.

According to police, the man was arrested on charges of selling beef in South Toda area under Raoji Bazar police station limits here.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a shop in the area on Saturday and allegedly seized a large quantity of beef from there, Raoji Bazar police station's sub-inspector Seema Dhakad said.

Mangaluru, Sept 24: Reports are doing rounds that sandalwood actress and Kannada television host Anushree has been summoned by the Mangaluru Central Crime Branch as part of an escalating probe into the state-wide drugs scandal.

If reports are to be believed, Mangaluru CCB today sent a notice to Anushree through Whatsapp to appear for interrogation. Further details regarding the date of investigation are awaited.

Reports also claimed that Anushree's summons are based on the investigation of Bollywood dancer and choreographer Kishore Shetty.

Kishore was arrested by the CCB Mangaluru on September 19 for allegedly possessing drugs. It was reported that Kishore Shetty consumed synthetic drugs and had been arrested by the CCB sleuths after they received information about the same. According to reports, Kishore has revealed that Anushree used to be a part of a few parties.

However, Anushree confirmed to a regional news channel that she has not received any notice from the Mangaluru CCB as of now. She also mentioned that she is deeply hurt and disheartened by such kind of news.

Anushree is one of the highest-paid anchors of Kannada television, reports suggest. She has been given a tough competition to her contemporaries in the showbiz world. In Kannada TV with more number of male anchors, Anushree has won the hearts of millions with her on-screen persona and style of hosting.
