Mangalore, Nov 19: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee paid tribute to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 96th birth anniversary at the party office here on Sunday.
Floral homage was paid to the portrait of late Mrs Gandhi by Congress leaders such as Ivan D'Souza, Ibrahim Kodijal, B A Moidin Bava, Mamatha Gatty and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibrahim Kodijal said that Indira Gandhi would be forever remembered for her welfare programmes and land reforms she implemented during her tenure for the benefit of the poor and the landless.
KPCC secretary Ivan D'Souza said that Indira Gandhi was always remembered as a strong and powerful woman. Due to nationalisation of banks and the 20-point programme she implemented during her rule, thousands of poor families were able to lead a life of dignity. In the present situation, all the party workers and youth should be inspired by Indira Gandhi to work towards the goal of bringing the party back to power, he said.
Mangalore North MLA Moidin Bava said that the former Prime Minister played a prominent role towards making India one of the most developing countries in her period. Her programmes and contribution to the nation and its people should not be forgotten, he said.
