Irrfan Khan Continues to Impress in ‘Jurassic World’

June 18, 2015

San Francisco, Jun 18: Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan has been making a splash in the international film scene for quite a few years in hit shows such as “In Treatment” and films such as “Life of Pi.” His most recent foray as Simon Masrani in the latest addition to the “Jurassic Park” series, “Jurassic World,” captures a more sophisticated and chic side of the actor.

Masrani replaces John Hammond, billionaire and founder of the original Jurassic Park, as the jet-setting owner of the theme park whose utmost concern is the happiness of his visitors and dinosaurs.

The eighth richest man in the world attempts to keep Hammond’s vision of the park alive throughout the film, explaining how Hammond’s intention in creating Jurassic Park was to humble humanity with these awe-inspiring creatures.

Unlike Jurassic Park, the dinosaurs of Jurassic World are very docile and friendly. Visitors of the park see them more as animals at a zoo than extinct creatures resurrected from the past.

In order to inspire the kind of awe Hammond wanted, Masrani has a team of scientists genetically engineer dinosaurs to make them bigger, meaner and scarier.

Here is where we see some of Masrani’s dark side, when he begins referring to the dinosaurs as assets as opposed to animals.

Unfortunately, this leads to the sort of mayhem one would expect from creating vicious, genetically-modified dinosaurs.

Even with the chaos, Masrani manages to remain calm and collected — even when confronted by the obnoxiously over-authoritative attitude of Vic Hoskins (Vincent D’Onofrio), head of the private security forces — and daringly throws himself into the fray in order to try to save the park.

Despite his limited screen presence, Khan does an excellent job portraying the cool and collected Masrani while maintaining a sense of style that would make any billionaire jealous.

Though the film follows the same plotline as the other “Jurassic Park” movies, it has maintained the original film’s message about the dangers of tampering with nature.

Khan’s next international project, “Inferno,” will see the actor in the role of Harry Sims alongside Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Ben Foster and “Jurassic World” co-star Omar Sy.

“Inferno” is scheduled to hit theaters Oct. 14, 2016.
