Newsroom, Oct 24: Well-known Islamic scholar and Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama member K P Hamza Musliyar passed away at his residence at Taliparamba in Kannur district of Kerala today. He was 79.
Popularly known as ‘Kanzul Ulama’ in Kerala and neighbouring states, the religious stalwart was the general secretary of Sunni Education Board.
Born in 1939 at Pattuvam in Kannur district as the son of Ahmed Kutti and Nafeesa couple, Musliyar after completing Class 8, completely dedicated himself for religious education and became a disciple of Soofi saint Abbas Musliyar. He completed his postgraduate course in Islamic studies from prestigious Darul Uloom, Deoband.
He started his career as a religious teacher in 1965 at Mattool and then became the muddarris at Chittari. He then served as a professor at Jamia Sa’adiya Arabic College.
A scholar in Malayalam, Urdu and Arabic, he became the first principal of Al Maqar institute which was established at Taliparamba in 1989.
He is survived by wife, five sons, and six daughters. The funeral was held at around 4 pm on the premises of Al-Maqar Campus in Taliparamba.
Upon hearing the sad news, several religious scholars from across south India rushed to Kannur to participate in the funeral prayers.
