Mangaluru, Apr 8: Villagers in Dakshina Kannada district affected by ISPRL pipeline project passing from Thokur-Padur submitted a memorandum to DK deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim demanding permanent acquisition of land for the project and fair compensation to land-owners as per Land Acquisition Act, 2013 - instead of acquisition under the Petroleum and Minerals Pipelines Act, 1962.

Under the aegis of Kalathoor Janajagruti Samiti, villagers from the district affected by the pipeline project submitted a memorandum demanding fair compensation to land-owners and grieved that necessary work for the pipeline project had begun on privately-owned land without conducting a requisite survey of the area affected by the project.
Speaking on the occasion, B Deviprasad Shetty said the contractors were oppressing the villagers and land-owners by keeping them in the dark about the project without furbishing necessary details. Without conducting a requisite survey of the region, the proposed pipeline project will cause the land to be rendered useless and the farmers will be left with no land to continue their agriculture. The compensation fixed by the company is 10 percent of the market value for the land acquired for the pipeline, which is unfair, he said, urging that the acquisition of land should be made permanent so that the land-owners could avail full compensation as per the Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
He urged that a meeting should be convened with ISPRL project holders under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner to resolve the issue and fixed a suitable amount as compensation value for the acquired land.
The villagers demanded that the compensation provided should be four times the current market value, and proper information should be provided on the project to the respective local gram panchayats. A detailed survey of the land proposed to be acquired for the project should be conducted, while providing accurate information to the land-owners affected by the pipeline, they demanded, urging the deputy commissioner to respond to the problems of the villagers.
