Bengaluru, Aug 12: Popular Kannada actor ‘Real Star’ Upendra, who is all set to test political waters this time in real life, on Friday said his move is a humble effort to empower people in a democracy.

In an audio circulated to media houses and posted on social media, Upendra raises questions about the attitude of elected representatives, whom he refers to as “people’s servants” and living on the taxes paid by the common man.

In the 13-minute audio monologue, Upendra says his new party will not hold rallies or any campaigns. “Satyameva Jayate” will be slogan of the new political outfit.

“There won’t be any publicity like other parties have - no banners, no posters, no rallies and no traffic jams, no caste...I will reach out to you with the help of truth. This is just an attempt.” Upendra had indicated his intentions to step into the political arena at least twice--- first in 2010 and later in 2014. Most of Upendra’s movies have political satire in them. In the movie Super, he becomes the chief minister. The actor has once again made public his political intentions this time when Assembly polls are hardly eight months away. “The need of the hour is not Rajakiya (politics), but Prajakiya (democracy)”, he says in the audio.

He blames himself and people for the present political, economical and social situation. He feels that there should be a test for people before they are given tickets to contest elections. It should be made mandatory that they work between 9 am and 6 pm for the people everyday after being elected. In the audio, he blames the existing political system for not addressing issues such as Cauvery, Kalasa-Banduri disputes, farmers suicide among others. Somebody has to take the responsibility to bring in a change. “I am ready to take up the responsibility,” he says.

The day also witnessed speculation that Upendra will be joining the BJP in the presence of party national president Amit Shah on Saturday. Shah will be on a three-day visit to the state from Saturday.

Upendra has been invited for a ‘meet of intellectuals’ with about 400 eminent people for an interaction with Shah being organised at a star hotel on Saturday evening. Incidentally, Upendra was associated with the ABVP when he was a student at APS College of Commerce in Basavanagudi.

While monitoring social media activity on Tuesday, Kankanady Town PSI Anitha Nikkam identified the Instagram handle ‘team_targetttt_900’ for posting a hate message alongside images of lethal weapons. Another account, ‘team_nagara_900’, allegedly shared a threatening post targeting activist Bharath Kumdelu, tagging additional pages such as KARAVALI-OFFICIAL.

Several other accounts — including ‘immu_bhai.fan’, ‘target_boy_900’, ‘kings_of_manglore’, ‘team_target_boys.900’, ‘arshad_mangalore’, ‘target_ka19_ullal’, ‘team_target__’, ‘troll_tigersz_900’, ‘tr_group_900’, and ‘team_target_900’ — are also under scrutiny for spreading similar inflammatory material, police said.

Authorities have urged citizens, especially young social media users, to report suspicious pages and avoid engaging with groups that glorify violence or threaten individuals. Online hate can quickly escalate into real-world harm, and police stress that sharing or promoting such content can attract legal consequences.
