Mangaluru, Jun 28: Ivan D’Souza, who completed one year as a member of Legislative Council, said that that he has been making the best use of opportunities that came in his way to serve people irrespective of caste and community.
Addressing press persons at his office in the city on June 27, exactly one year after he took oath as an MLC, Mr D’Souza said that during the legislature sessions he made use of all platforms including “calling attention motion” to highlight issues of utmost importance.
To commemorate his one year in office, Mr. D’Souza got released a 20-page booklet titled ‘Intricate path: successful Imprints’. Mangaluru Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred released the booklet describing the benchmarks and other achievements of the MLC.
Mr D’Souza has not only registered cent per cent attendance, but has also fully utilised the quota of four questions per day during the session on all the 61 days.
The MLC said some issues that he raised, not only helped people but also got him satisfaction.
When the Department of Fisheries was unrelenting to provide compensation to the family of a fisherman who went missing from the seashores near Mangaluru old harbour, he raised it on the floor of the house and also pressured the Chief Minister, who ordered payment of compensation the family, Mr. D’Souza said.
He also got released Rs. 1.28 crore during the one year towards medical treatment of people from economically weaker sections of society, again cutting across caste and religion-lines.
As many as 140 people had benefited, Mr. D’Souza said.
On the legislator’s development funds, the MLC said he successfully utilised Rs. 99.9 lakh out of Rs. 1.99 crore grant.
