
Surathkal, May 5: Hundreds of residents in the grief-stricken town of Jokatte, where cattle trader Mohammad Kabeer was born and brought up, took out a silent rally to protest the brutality of Anti-Naxal-Force and its supporters.
The family of Kabeer, who was gunned down by an ANF constable last month at Sringeri had shifted from Jokatte to Krishnapur a few months ago due to familial and financial reasons. However, 23-year-old Kabeer had continued bonds with his home town.
Several like-minded organizations under the banner of Jokatte Sanghatanegala Okkoota' took part in the protest rally organized on Sunday demanding justice for Kabeer and punishment for his killers.
Human rights activist and English lecturer Pattabhiram Somayaji addressing the protest meet, demanded a CBI probe into the killing.
President of Okkoota B M Rafeeq, Jokatte Gram Panchayat President B Shekunhi, Bantwal GP Member Imthiyaz, District Convener Athavullah, Kabeer's father Idinabba, Usman, Abdul Razak Narve and leaders of various organizations were present. A K Ashraf also spoke on the occasion.
