The Election Commission of Indian on Tuesday, March 27, announced the dates for Karnataka assembly elections. Elections will be held in a single phase on May 12 and the results will be announced on May 15.
The term of the current 224-member legislative assembly ends on May 28.
Chief minister Siddaramaiah has convened a meeting of the cabinet on Tuesday, but he may call it off if the poll calendar is announced as the model code of conduct comes into force immediately after the announcement by the Election Commission.
The political temperature in the state is on a steep climb with Congress president Rahul Gandhi and BJP national chief Amit Shah kicking off campaigning in battleground constituencies.
