Karnataka government on Friday tabled the Karnataka Tourism (Facilitation and regulation) Bill-2015 in the legislative assembly. The Bill proposes registration of home stays, travel agents, tour operators, those offering adventure activities and licensing of guides, among other things.
“This Bill is not regulatory in nature, but will be a facilitator to the industry,” tourism minister R V Deshpande said after tabling the Bill. The Bill is proposed to accelerate the growth of tourism and encourage right practices in the sector and orderly conduct of tourism activities.
The proposed Bill assumes importance in the light of the attack on people at a home stay in Mangaluru a few years ago and several fatal accidents, especially in the adventure tourism sector.
