Udupi, Sep 7: Former Chief Minister and vice-president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) B S Yeddyurappa has said that the Karthik Gowda episode was “somewhat embarrassing” to the party.

Mr. Yeddyurappa said that it looked like a conspiracy to implicate Karthik Gowda. “The matter is now in the court. A bail application has been moved. It is expected to come up for hearing on Monday. We will deal with this matter,” he said.
Replying to the queries of presspersons here on Saturday, Mr Yeddyurappa said he would urge the Union government to continue its subsidy for the naphtha-based fertilizer plant of Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF) in Mangalore till the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) supplied Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) to it.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said that the Union government should maintain status quo as far as MCF was concerned. The MCF was producing four lakh metric tonnes of urea annually from its plant annually. Nearly 3,000 families were dependent on it. “All this would be affected if the plant closes down due to stoppage of subsidy,” he said.
Mr. Yeddyurappa said the MCF had spent Rs. 350 crore to build infrastructure facilities to receive LNG at its plant from GAIL.
The GAIL was to have provided LNG through a gas pipeline from Kochi in Kerala to Mangalore, but the GAIL was slow in laying the gas pipeline.
Besides, the Kerala government had raised some objections about the gas pipeline. The pipeline is likely to to take another two years to complete.
