Srinagar, Apr 8: As the entire media spotlight is on the row between outstation students and the National Institute of Technology (NIT) administration, 20-year-old Imtiyaz Sheikh is nursing wounds received in a brutal attack on April 1 when he visited the NIT campus to deliver courier mail.

“The students were abusing Kashmiri Muslims. I saw them vandalising the canteen. They threw eatables around. They were in huge numbers. I was told they were unhappy that locals celebrated West Indies' victory,” said Mr. Sheikh.
Mr. Sheikh was pounced upon by protesting students when he tried to flee the spot on his scooter.
“As I rode the scooter, a student hit me with a cricket bat and a glass object was struck on my arm. I bled profusely. They wanted me to chant Bharat Mata Ki Jai. I refused. I told them I am a Kashmiri Muslim and can't chant the slogan,” said Mr. Sheikh.
The courier staffer claimed he was rescued by a few local students. The police have lodged an FIR in the case.
