Kundapur, Oct 13: In a shocking incident pointing at the negligence of doctors at a government hospital, an elderly man lying motionless on a hospital was discovered dead by the state health minister U T Khader during his surprise visit to the local government hospital.
Surprisingly, the doctors at the hospital were completely unaware of the death of the elderly patient! It was brought to their attention when the minister discovered the lifeless body of the patient lying on the hospital bed.
An elderly resident of Vinayaka Kodi, Seena Ganiga was found dead on his hospital bed and none of the hospital staff were aware of this fact.
Mr Khader, who was in Kundapur on Saturday to attend a local programme, decided to pay a surprise visit to the hospital in the night.
After inspecting the attendance register of the hospital and other basic facilities, he decided to further inspect the treatment offered in the hospital and visited the patients in the general wards. Upon coming towards Seena Ganiga, he discovered that the body had become numb and immediately directed the hospital doctors to check his pulse and ascertain what was wrong.
When his pulse was checked, they realised that he had passed away. Astonishingly, the other patients too were unaware of Seena's death. Hence, no one knew when Seena had passed away.
Having failed to respond convincingly at his death, Mr Khader said that on-duty doctor Anitha would be taken to task over negligence of the patient.
Meanwhile, the locals complained about the government doctors over their negligent attitude towards the patients, as they were more concerned about their private practice. The minister directed the district health officer to sternly enforce health care regulations and rectify the situation at the hospital at the earliest.
