Mangalore, Dec 7:'Seaplane', which is one of the highlights of Kerala's tourism, was set to be imbibed in Mangalore as well and authorities were positive about the same. However, if sources are to be believed, the'Seaplane' will never take off for Mangalore because of lack of land.

There were plans to start the seaplane service on bank of river Phalguni at Gurpur, near International Airport, by Karnataka Tourism Development Board, in collaboration with Kerala Toruism department and private players. The project required seven to ten acre of land. However, since the required area of land is not available here, the project had to be dropped.
According to the project CESSNA 206H aircraft with six seater capacity was to be in place to provide connectivity to Mangalore, Tiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode cities, thereby providing access to some of the beautiful backwater landscapes of the two states.
But, as of now non-availability of land has dampened the plans. The officials have inspected the region and have thought of reducing the requirement of the land to make way for the project, but that again is something to be waited and watched out for.
Seaplane
The Cessna 206H amphibian is a six seater plane which can land on water. Since the waves in the sea make it unfavourable for landing, the amphibian planes can comfortably land on rivers. The tourists are taken on a boat ride from the planes.
Skybus, seaplane… distant dreams
Sybus project and Udupi-Mangalore mono-rail projects proposed about five to seven years ago are yet to be implemented. Seaplane project has become new entrant to this list.
One has to only wait and watch if these project will be implemented or the region continues to see failures in the same manner.
