Vittal, Oct 4: There is fear and apprehension over the possibility of a leopard in the area among people in the neighbouring villages of Vittal-Mudnoor and Vittal-Kasaba from the past few days.

The villagers claim that a leopard had made away with domestic fowl and a dog on Wednesday.
Earlier on Monday, the villagers had found leopard pug marks in Kundadka in Vittal-Mudnoor, following which forest officials visited the spot and conducted investigation. But, there had been no sightings of the leopard.
However, the officials did find solid evidence of a leopard present in the areca plantation belonging to Prabhakar Bhat on Tuesday. A dog had disappeared from the house of Prabhakar Bhat.
Finding the published report of suspected leopard in the area published in a local newspaper, a progressive farmer B Shankar Bhat also reported the disappearance of a dog from his house. He also said that from the past few days, there had been no sightings of peacocks which could be seen regularly in his plantation.
A local resident of Kurumbala Eshwar Bangera, along with his friend Haneef, are said to have spotted a leopard making off with a chicken in its mouth in Vittal early morning on Wednesday. The chicken apparently belonged to another resident Chandappa Purusha.
After a while of hunting for the leopard, the villagers found chicken feathers and pug marks of the leopard near the area where it was last seen.
Officials said that a trap would be brought from Bangalore and set up as soon as possible to trap the leopard.
