Mangaluru, Jan 4: Four tourist women were rescued from a certain watery grave on Saturday in two separate incidents by the Lifeguards at Someshwar beach on the outskirts of the city.

Yathish Baikampady, chief executive officer of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project that manages Someshwar beach identified the women rescued as Poornima, 32, Geetha, 31, and Sanjeevathi, 22 from Anekal in Haveri.
The women ignoring warnings from the locals had gone some 150-metres South of the Somanatha Temple, Yathish said, adding that timely action by the lifeguards saved them from getting drowned.
Observing that the Sea is unusually rough from the past four to five days, Yathish said the lifeguards have been constantly warning the tourists from venturing in to the Sea. Noting that there was fair enough crowd at the beach even in the morning, Yathish said the people who watch the three women getting sucked in alerted the lifeguards. They were left a bit dazed by the incident, but otherwise fine, Yathish noted.
Referring to the incident surrounding Shashi, 22, from Bengaluru, Yathish said she was perched on top of a rock that dots Someshwar, when she accidentally slipped and fell in to the water below. The incident took place around 12.30pm. The lifeguards immediately pulled her out, he said adding she suffered no injuries. The day's rescue took the number of lives saved by the lifeguards at Someshwar to 47, Yathish added.
