Mangalore, Mar 22: Aam Aadmi Party candidate for Dakshina Kannada constituency in the Lok Sabha elections M R Vasudeva filed his nomination papers at the Deputy Commissioner 's office on Saturday.
He was accompanied by Santhosh Kottari, Rohan Shiri, Harish Acharya and Glenwil when he filed his nomination papers to the District Election officer A B Ibrahim.
Differences out in the fore
Confusion arose while the party members arrived at the DC 's office along with their Lok Sabha candidate to file the nomination papers, when former founder-convenor of the district unit of the party Robert Rosario arrived at the scene.
Few AAP members began to question his interference while others suggested that he should be ignored. Few members said that Mr Rosario was involved in bringing differences in the party.
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr Rosario said that the party candidate M R Vasudev had recently attended a programme organised by NaMo Brigade in the city as a guest, and therefore had connections with the group, which is affiliated to the BJP. He is a candidate with previous links with the RDD and likely planted by the Sangh Parivar, he said.
He also said that there was a procedure to be followed and the citizens had to be asked for their agreement on the proposed candidate before selecting him as the final candidate contesting for the Lok Sabha elections. However, with the nomination of Mr Vasudeva, no such procedure was followed and he was selected as the candidate without taking the opinion of all the party members into consideration, said Mr Rosario.
However, campaigning manager for the local AAP unit Jayaprakash told mediapersons that Robert Rosario was an expelled member of the party and that the allegations raised by him were false. The intention of the party was to float a clean candidate without a communal history and found a suitable candidate with Mr Vasudeva, he said, clarifying that there were no objections from party members for his candidature.
Candidate speaks
After filing his nomination papers, Mr Vasudeva said that corruption was rampant across the country and people were tired of it. “National political parties have been unsuccessful in understanding the problems of the public, who have become uneasy and restless over corruption issues. Our party stands for a corruption-free state and will fight against it,” he said.
Brushing the allegations, he said that he had been a common citizen before joining the political party and him being seen at any programme was not controversial. “I am mainly concerned with the promises included in the party manifesto and will stand by them,” he said.
