Mangalore, Jun 30: Traffic system in Mangalore will undergo significant changes as the city traffic police is planning to install 12 new signals under the M-track system.
Announcing this at Mangalore Press Club on Monday, City Police Commissioner R Hithendra said that the Commissionerate will take all necessary steps to control the traffic efficiently and felicitate smooth moment of vehicles on city roads.
Mr Hithendra said that the state government has earmarked Rs 25 crore in the budget for the M-track system. Rs 5 crore is expected to be utilized in the first year.
Under the project, strategic junctions and signals in the city will be upgraded. Intelligence signals will work according to the density of the traffic, he said.
He said that the Commissionerate has already forwarded a proposal to the government for the installation of CCTV cameras in signals and police control rooms.
He also said that selected roads in the city should me made one wake in the wake of increased traffic density.
On the occasion the commissioner released the media stickers for vehicles. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Uday Nayak, Dakshina Kannada District Working Journalists Association President P B Harish Rai, Distirct Information Officer Khader Shah were present.
