
The deceased has been identified as Veeranna (40), a resident of Uppinangady. He was down with fever for two days. Uday Bhat, the owner of the farm where Veeranna was working, took him to a hospital in Puttur on Wednesday.
The hospital authorities immediately referred to the Government Wenlock Hospital.
The Wenlock Hospital Superintendent Rajeshwari Devi said examination of blood smears from Veeranna showed him positive for Malaria. He died on Wednesday evening. Dr. Rajeshwari said death audit by health authorities would reveal the exact reason for his death.
District Malaria Officer S.B. Arun Kumar said Veeranna had also been suffering from pneumonia. Blood smears were collected from Veeranna's village. Nobody else tested positive for Malaria, he said.
