This is the first conviction by the court that is now trying as many as 64 cases of rape.

The Judge has imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000. If he fails to pay the fine, he would have to undergo imprisonment of additional one year.
Judge S H Pushpanjali Devi found Chandappa alias Babu Nalke guilty of sexually assaulting his distant relative in Belthangady on May 14, 2012.
According to the chargesheet by Belthangady police, Chandappa called the girl on her mobile phone and asked her to come to Belthangady market promising her a job in a shop.
When she came, Chandrappa took her in an autorickshaw to Malebettu saying that they needed to meet the shop owner. But he took her to an isolated place and sexually assaulted her. Chandrappa was arrested on May 16, 2012.
Prosecutor Shivaprasad Alva examined 13 witnesses including the girl and her mother. The girl's father turned hostile before the court. The judge convicted Chandappa under Sections 376 (sexual assault), 366 (kidnap) and 506 (threat to life) of Indian Penal Code.
