Udupi, Jun 11: A 45-year-old man was arrested by police on the charge of murdering his eighty-year-old mother-in-law at Uppinakudru village in Kundapur taluk on Wednesday.

Janaki used to stay alone in her house close to her son Ganesh Sherugar’s house. Janardhan had stayed at Janaki’s house on June 9.
At around 10 p.m. on June 9, Ganesh heard loud cries of his mother. He rushed to her house and found her lying dead on the floor with blood flowing from her head. Janardhan had a wooden rod in his hand. Janardhan fled from the spot.
Ganesh, in his complaint with the police, said that Janardhan used to pick up fights with Janaki for money. Since she did not give any money on Tuesday night, he killed her with the wooden rod, he said.
A case under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) had been registered at the Kundapur police station and investigations were on, the police said.
P.M. Diwakar, Circle Police Inspector, said that the police arrested Janardhan in the village at around 9 a.m. on Wednesday. He was produced before the court in Kundapur, which remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days, he said.
