
Mangalore, Aug 13: The Dakshina Kannada District Committee of Federation of Karnataka Auto rickshaw Drivers Union, affiliated to CITU staged a demonstration in front of Deputy Commissioner's Office in Mangalore on Wednesday condemning the brutal murder of auto driver Muhammad Rifayi on Sunday morning.
Prior to the demonstration, the Union members took out a rally from Pumpwell circle to Statebank.
Addressing the protestors, State President of Democratic Youth Federation of India Muneer Katipalla questioned the silence of police department over frequent murder of auto drivers.
He said that district police have failed to take any action against the culprits involved in the revenge killings.
He said that police did not act promptly even if they were given credible clues about the culprits. “They are busy in showing off the accused who allegedly killed a man decades ago,” he criticized.
He also criticized the Ministers of Dakshina Kannada for their inaction' on the trouble mongers. “Everybody knows who is behind series of revenge killing, but they are silent,” he said.
He also demanded that a review meeting be conducted in police department as they conduct in other governmental departments.
Sunil Kumar Bajal, L T Suvarna, Lingappa Nanthur, Krishnappa Gowda, Yoginder, Sanjeeva, Sulaiman and others were present.
