Mangalore, Oct 6: With the arrest of two youths, the Mangalore city police have successfully solved the two murder cases that took place recently under the limits of commissionerate.
The police have identified the arrested as Siddappa alias Siddu (22), a native of Savadatti in Belgaum district and Murthuza Khadri alias Rafeeq (27), a native of Nittoli in Davangere district.
The duo were arrested in connection with two separate murder cases the murder of Jagadish Rao, an executive engineer at Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (MESCOM) at his residence in the city on September 21 and the murder of an elderly man at his residence in Alake on August 1.
Briefing media persons, Mangalore City Police Commissioner R Hitendra said that a gold chain, a revolver, 16 rounds, and a cash amount of Rs 5,000 were recovered from the duo.
He said that both the accused were working in the city for some time. The main accused Siddappa was working as a security guard in an apartment in Mangalore and his associate Rafeeq was working as a construction labourer.
He said that the two thieves became friends after their first meeting at KSRTC bus stand in Mangalore more than a year ago and started œjoint operation .
The commissioner said that the accused have confessed to their crime and further investigations are on. He said that the revolver and 16 rounds seized from the accused were in fact stolen from the house of a businessman in the city in May.
Mr Hithendra said that the modus operandi of the arrested was that they used to break open the backdoor of the house and kill the occupants and then decamp with the valuables.
They also revealed that they had pledge a few stolen gold ornaments in a finance company and borrowed money.
