
He was sentenced for two month imprisonment and levied with a fine of Rs 10000.
Judge Undi Manjula Shivappa ordered that the convict will have to undergo additional one month of imprisonment in case he fails to pay up the fine.
On May 6, 2008, Assistant Election Officer, Pravinchandra Karkera filed a complaint that Mr Aziz was found to be canvassing for votes at Padavu labour colony in the city by posting some posters on his car, carrying the printed materials, Congress manifesto and photographs of Sonia Gandhi during assembly election. He did not seek prior permission for the campaign, said the election officer.
On the basis of the complaint, rural police sub-inspector (crime), Bharati, had investigated the case and filed charge sheet in the court.
Reacting to the judgment, Mr. Aziz said that he would file an appeal against the judgment before the Sessions Court on Tuesday and also seek a stay order against the lower court's order. He said that he was seeking bail from the JMFC court. Mr. Aziz said that he had not used his car for campaigning.
