Mangalore, Sep 14: In another major breakthrough in busting gold smuggling, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport, recovered and seized 1166.700 grams of gold valued over Rs 32 lakhs.
The smuggled gold was detected during rummaging of the Jet Airways Flight No.9w531 which arrived at Mangalore International Airport from Dubai at 8: 45 a.m. on Sunday.
The gold was found concealed in two packets wrapped with black insulation tapes by way of affixing the same behind the mirror of the rear toilet of the aircraft.
Each of the packets was found to contain five gold tola bars/biscuits in them totaling to Ten gold tola bars/biscuits weighing 1160.700 grams in total, said Krishna Kumar Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Mangalore International Mangalore, in a press release.
The is the second major seizure at the Mangalore International Airport involving more than one kg gold effected by the officers of the Mangalore Customs during the last one week. Further investigation in the case is under progress.
