Mangalore, Aug 7: The Airports Authority of India has instructed airports across the country including Mangalore International Airport to set up screening facilities at arrival terminals to nip mounting fears of an Ebola outbreak in the bud.

The directive has been issued in accordance with guidelines laid out by the World Health Organization (WHO) to airports around the globe.
Th District Health Officer H S Shivakumar said on Wednesday that a directive has been issued by Ministry of External Affairs to screen of Indians returning from Liberia following outbreak of Ebola virus.
In the letter, the Ministry said there were around 3,000 Indians residing in Liberia. Of this around 60 families were returning to India. The letter said these families will be coming to New Delhi and Mumbai. The States have been asked to take necessary steps to screen these passengers.
Dr Shivakumar said none of these flights directly land at the Mangalore International Airport. These passengers might come from New Delhi or Mumbai airports. An IEC outlet, with doctors and nurses had been set up at the airport two months ago, to screen those suspected of MERS. This outlet will also screen passengers suspected of Ebola fever, he said.
